About Ian LeFae

Hi folks! My name is Ian LeFae (he/they). Let me tell you a bit about myself.

At Keep It Plain, I keep operations running smoothly so that our clients receive quality document support on time. I provide writing and graphics support and run the administrative side of our operations.

Over the course of my career, I’ve found that everything is centered around communication. I’ve learned about communication from my artistic training, natural horsemanship, small business operations, and working in the fields of healthcare, insurance, and finance.

I began studying art and design at North Seattle Community College in 2010 with an early interest in learning scientific illustration. With a major in Drawing & Painting, I learned many of the techniques used by artists to communicate visually. From composition and design to media selection and manipulation, each step is a new opportunity to communicate something important to the audience. How a document is formatted, and the kinds of graphics or illustrations that are used, can greatly enhance the reader’s understanding of complex information.

In 2016 I reignited a childhood love of horses when I began volunteering at Save a Forgotten Equine, a horse rescue in Redmond, WA. The horses we took in came from all backgrounds, breeds, and disciplines. Many had faced abuse and neglect and were shy of humans altogether. In this environment, I learned many useful lessons about communication. Particularly, how to use body language and visual signals to communicate with highly intelligent, but non-verbal, participants. Clear and consistent communication built a bridge of trust between our trainers and the horses. I now own two horses of my own and am always learning something new about how to be a better communicator every time I interact with them.

When Bran and I envisioned Keep It Plain, I saw the perfect opportunity to tap into these skills I had been developing for years. With my own health issues, and those of many friends and family members, I could readily appreciate the value of well communicated health care information. Each step in the process is an opportunity to help the patient feel empowered in their healthcare choices. Whether making graphics or describing procedures, we are ready to turn your next writing project into a voice your patients can trust. You can count on us to deliver clarity and value every step of the way.
